Violent Femmes Concert

Filed under: Culture — mmrobins @ 12:09 pm

Kim and I went to see the Violent Femmes play at the zoo! We even got to stop off and see the penguins, probably my favorite animal. We brought little lawn chairs and a blanket, and squeezed out a spot not too far from the stage. Colin Maloy from the Decemberists was the warm-up act, and I liked it, even if it was really sleeping and macabre music. In between acts Kim and I went to the beer garden just to see the butterflies. Even if I had wanted beer there were too many people, so we just went into the tent o’ butterflies, but they were pretty sedentary. It was kinda cold. We did get to see a luna moth however.

The Violent Femmes are just a fun band to see every time. The bassist has long hair now, which threw me off. They started out kinda slow, but by the end tons of people were dancing (some middle aged women doing so more annoyingly and right in front of us than others) and singing along. Despite the huge population of children at the show, the Femmes didn’t shy away from a few naughty lyrics, althought they did edit themselves of straight out swear words.
