They do charge a small fee, but it’s nothing compared to some volunteer agencies and it’s nice to have someone set something up before you come down. However, if you do come to South America and have a bit of time you’ll find plent of volunteer opportunities that charge nothing, but they’ll also usually require you to be a bit more organized since they won’t be and you’ll want to have a bit of Spanish.
